Do you guys have a couple of free days in Puerto Rico to visit one of the most beautiful beaches in the world? If so, look no further than Culebra.

We finally had a whole free weekend to explore Puerto Rico and decided to book a quick getaway to Culebra. Now, keep in mind a lot of places weren’t open due to it being low travel season, but we didn’t mind because we had the beaches to ourselves and drove a golf cart around the whole island without any congested roads.

First things first, before planning your trip, make sure to book your accommodations and transportation in advance. There isn’t Uber in Culebra so it’s recommended that you book a car (or a golf cart, like we did) in advance. Also, most car rental places close at 4pm, so just be sure that you arrive in Culebra before then.

How we got there:

We drove to Ceiba, which is located on the far east part of the island and parked our car in a lot close to the ferry port. The lot only cost $7/day. We took the Puerto Rico Ferry and paid $2.25 each way per person. So cheap, right?! Just be sure to take Dramamine in advance if you end up on a later ferry ride. (The ride was bumpy going to Culebra, but was fine coming back).

Where we stayed:

We got lucky and found accommodations at this Airbnb, Casa Resaca. It’s ran by these two amazing guys, Randy and David, who were sweet enough to pick us up from the port and provided coffee every morning. We didn’t spend much time here, but the time that we did was very welcoming. We booked Casa Resaca for 2 nights. I think you could see the whole island of Culebra in just 2-3 days.

Where we ate:

My awesome husband booked a reservation at one of the few (and busiest) restaurants in Culebra, Harspoon’s. Highly recommend booking a reservation in advance as well. We had some delicious parcha mojitos, buñuelos, grilled octopus and the mahi-mahi. The service was so warm and welcoming, we already can’t wait to go back.

For breakfast, there’s a coffee shop close to the pier, Culebra Coffee, that has typical american breakfast items like avocado toasts, açaí bowls, sandwiches and coffee.

How did we get around?

We rented a golf cart in advance from UTV rentals. They were the only place that had golf carts available in such short notice, but I do recommend shopping around. Other places had better pricing and service.

Which beaches did we visit?

Our first stop was Flamenco. We had heard so many raving reviews and we could see why. It really is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, in my opinion. The sand was so soft and clean. The water was warm and the shore was calm enough for babies to play in it.

Our second stop was Zoni beach. This one didn’t have much sand area to lay in, but we managed to snag a shaded spot under a palm tree and set up our lounge area. This beach was my favorite because it was easy for people who aren’t very good swimmers (like myself). There weren’t any rough waves at all! I think I spent a whole hour just jumping around the water with my husband. We enjoyed it so much that we didn’t even take photos. We truly were just living in the moment.

On our drive to Zoni beach.

What to bring?

We brought 2 beach chairs (although our Airbnb provided them as well), a cooler with drinks and snacks, an umbrella and beach towels. Bug spray is a must! And as always, spf to keep the leather skin away. I like this one because it’s so environmentally friendly.

Culebra is one of those places you have to see for yourself. It’s not a luxurious island, but if you enjoy beautiful beaches and quaint towns then you’ll have an amazing time! Also, there’s a tiny little market with a drive thru for alcohol and if you happen to stumble upon it, do yourself a favor and order the parcha mojitos! You will not be disappointed. 😉

I can’t wait to explore more of Puerto Rico and continue sharing with you all!
