This isn’t a typical post for me because it isn’t necessarily travel related, but this is one of the supplements I take to keep me healthy on the plane. I’ve recently discovered the magical powers of magnesium supplements and feel inclined to share with everyone else because we don’t gatekeep here. Now, I’m not a healthcare professional, but I do plenty of research before intaking anything. I do always recommend speaking with your medical provider before intaking any supplements.
WHY I STARTED TAKING MAGNESIUM
So it all began when I went into my doctors office for routine bloodwork. Turns out that I have low iron deficiency (not uncommon in women), but mine happened to be so low that my doctor prescribed me a strong daily iron supplement. Unfortunately for me, this iron supplement came with some uncomfortable side effects. Constipation. There’s many things I dislike in this world, but constipation is high up on the list for me. It’s something that can ruin my entire mood and even day! So what did I do? I did what any other desperate person would do. Google research. LOL I stumbled upon these magnesium pills. They keep me from being constipated and bloated and if this isn’t enough to convince you to start intaking magnesium then just stop reading now. Also, if you’re a frequent traveler, you know how common constipation is especially when you’re traveling long distances. Well, I found your solution. Magnesium supplements.
MAGNESIUM BENEFITS
Did you know that magnesium does not only aid in constipation, but it also combats depression?! I’m shocked this supplement isn’t advertised more to help people who are dealing with mental health. It also promotes bone health and better sleep! Take it from me, someone who has dealt with sleep disorders from sleeping in different time zones all the time, it works! Since taking magnesium at night before bed, I’ve been able to sleep throughout the night. I used to also get random leg cramps in the middle of the night because of strenuous work outs and those have also disappeared since magnesium came into my life. I could go on and on, but if still don’t take my word for it, check out this article from Healthline.
MY FAVORITE BENEFIT OF ALL
This benefit deserves it’s own paragraph, in my opinion. My favorite benefit of all since intaking magnesium is the ease and the amount of times I’m able to use the restroom. That’s right. I’m talking about number 2. The doo. I find myself being able to go 2-3 times a day whenever I’m on magnesium supplements. I, now, keep a full bottle of magnesium supplements on my nightstand and another bottle in my work lunch box so I never forget to take them right before bed, no matter where I am. I take the 500mg magnesium pills with a glass of water one hour before bed.
According to Medical News Today, a high magnesium diet results in a lower risk of type 2 diabetes. Unfortunately, many people don’t intake enough magnesium alone so a pill is sometimes necessary. Magnesium can even aide PMS and if you’re anything like me and suffer from chronic monthly period cramps, you know how painful those can be. Now, obviously it is always recommended to intake your nutrients through food, but sometimes we have such crazy schedules and forget to make time to create healthy meals. Especially if you’re always on the go like me. 😉
